Create a BaZi birth chart and learn what each part means. Calculate your Four Pillars below, then follow the interpretation guide from the Day Master to the season, Ten Gods, and Luck Pillars.
The eight characters
BaZi means “eight characters”: a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch for each of four pillars. This calculator displays Year, Month, Day, and Hour from left to right. Other charts may reverse that order, so check the headings before comparing characters. Each column describes part of the same birth moment.

Check the Li Chun boundary; it is not always the same as the lunar zodiac year.
Seasonal context
BaZi months follow solar-term boundaries, not ordinary calendar months.
Your reference point
The upper character is the Day Master used to calculate the Ten God relationships.
The birth-time layer
This column is unavailable when the birth hour is unknown. Do not invent an hour.
The upper row contains Heavenly Stems; the lower row contains Earthly Branches. Hidden stems sit inside the branches. Na Yin and growth stages are additional traditional classifications; they are not substitutes for the Day Master or seasonal context.
A BaZi calculator and analysis guide serve different purposes. The calculator generates calendar-based data. Interpretation asks how those parts relate under a traditional school of reading. Use this sequence to understand the output without treating one label as a verdict.
Start a BaZi chart analysis with the input, not a conclusion. Use the local clock time recorded at birth and select the correct city. Confirm whether the date is Gregorian or lunar, whether a lunar month is a leap month, and whether true solar time is enabled. Around 23:00, midnight, or a solar-term transition, a small change can alter the chart. Keep the settings with your notes so a later comparison uses the same assumptions.
The Day Master is the upper character of the Day Pillar. It is one of ten Heavenly Stems, combining one of five elements with Yin or Yang. All Ten God labels are relationships to this reference point. For example, Jia is Yang Wood and Yi is Yin Wood; a Wood Day Master is not the same thing as being born in a Wood zodiac year. Read the Day column before interpreting any wealth, resource, or officer label.
The Month Pillar supplies seasonal context. Earthly Branches also contain hidden stems, so a chart cannot be understood just by counting the eight visible characters. Our distribution gives extra weight to the Month Branch and applies fixed hidden-stem weights. Use it to see how this particular model distributes elements, then inspect the original characters. It is a transparent starting point, not a universal strength score.
Companion, Output, Wealth, Power, and Resource describe how another element relates to the Day Master. Their Yin and Yang relationships produce the ten traditional labels. A name such as Seven Killings is a technical term, not a literal event forecast. Compare which labels are visible, which are hidden, and where they occur before drawing an interpretation from one isolated label.
The natal chart describes the birth moment; the Luck Pillars show a sequence of later periods. Read the displayed start age and dates rather than assuming the first cycle begins at birth or at exactly age ten. The traditional direction calculation uses the selected male/female category and the year stem. Timing cycles add another layer to compare with the birth chart; they do not replace it or guarantee an outcome.
For the exact weighting and time rules, read our calculation methodology. For a longer walkthrough, use How to Read a BaZi Chart alongside your result. BaZi is a traditional cultural framework; these labels are not scientific predictions.
No. A BaZi birth chart has Year, Month, Day, and Hour Pillars. A Chinese zodiac sign usually describes only the lunar birth year. BaZi commonly changes its Year Pillar at Li Chun, while the popular zodiac uses Chinese New Year.
It includes calculated chart data, element distribution, Ten Gods, hidden stems, and Luck Pillars, with a reading guide below. The element percentages are a simplified structural measure, not a complete professional interpretation or a prediction of events.
Find the Day Pillar and read its upper character, the Heavenly Stem. Its element and Yin or Yang polarity define your Day Master. Do not substitute the year animal or the year element for it.
Yes. Select Birth hour unknown. The calculator leaves the Hour Pillar unavailable and still displays the other three pillars. It does not fill a fictional birth hour. Conclusions that depend on the missing pillar remain uncertain.
Compare Gregorian versus lunar input, leap-month selection, birthplace and historical timezone, true solar time, and the day boundary at 23:00 or midnight. Differences near a solar term or time boundary may change a pillar. Match these assumptions before comparing interpretation.
No. This site's distribution weights visible stems and hidden stems, gives the Month Branch extra weight, and excludes the Day Master stem from the total. A small percentage alone does not make an element favorable; seasonal context and the whole chart still matter.
