2027 is the Year of the Fire Goat, also called the Sheep or Ram. The lunar year runs from February 6, 2027 to January 25, 2028. Check which birthdays belong to it, why its element is Yin Fire, and how it differs from a BaZi Year Pillar.
The 2027 year combination
丁未
Ding-wei · Heavenly Stem + Earthly Branch
A Gregorian year label is not enough for January and February birthdays. For the popular Chinese zodiac, compare the complete birth date with the Lunar New Year boundary. Both ends of each range below are included.
January 1 – February 5, 2027
These dates precede the lunar Goat year, even though the calendar year is already 2027.
February 6, 2027 – January 25, 2028
This is the complete Ding-wei lunar year. It includes the first 25 days of January 2028.
From January 26, 2028
The next Lunar New Year starts a new animal-and-stem combination.
For example, February 5 and February 6, 2027 fall in different lunar zodiac years. You can check a complete date with the Chinese zodiac sign calculator. For New Year’s Eve and Lantern Festival dates, see the Chinese New Year 2027 calendar.
The name combines two calendar characters. Ding (丁) is the Heavenly Stem, associated with Yin Fire. Wei (未) is the Earthly Branch associated with the Goat. “Fire Goat” therefore describes the year’s stem-and-animal pairing; it is not a claim that every part of a chart belongs to Fire.
The animal cycle repeats every 12 years, but the full stem-and-branch combination repeats every 60. The preceding Fire Goat year was 1967 and the next is 2087. A person born in 2015 is a Wood Goat under the same year-stem convention, even though both years share the same animal.
Keep the method attached to the label. Year-stem elements, branch elements, and Na Yin are separate traditional classifications. In a personal BaZi reading, your Day Master comes from the Day Pillar, not from the year element.
English zodiac references use Goat, Sheep, or Ram for 羊. For calendar lookup, they point to the same position in the twelve-animal cycle. This site uses Goat, matching the wording of the Hong Kong Observatory’s 2027 calendar table.
A “Year of the Sheep 2027” calendar should therefore use the same lunar-year boundaries as a Goat calendar. If two sources disagree about a birthday, compare their calendar rules before assuming the animal translation caused the difference.
The date ranges above use Chinese New Year. BaZi commonly changes the Year Pillar at Li Chun, a solar term. In the Hong Kong Observatory’s 2027 calendar, Li Chun is on February 4, two calendar days before Lunar New Year. A birth after the Li Chun transition but before February 6 can therefore have a Goat Year Pillar while still belonging to the lunar Horse year.
For a birthday close to Li Chun, use the exact time and birthplace; a day-only table cannot resolve the moment of the solar-term change. The BaZi chart calculator keeps the birth-time settings with the result so you can compare the two conventions.
The same animal can carry different year-stem elements. Use these lunar-year ranges for a birth-date lookup rather than assuming every date in a listed Gregorian year is a Goat birthday.

The Year of the Goat 2027 gives you a calendar identity: Ding-wei, Yin Fire, and a defined lunar-year range. It does not establish a baby’s personality, marriage prospects, or future income. Start with the correct birth date, distinguish the lunar zodiac from the BaZi Year Pillar, and use the remaining pillars when you want to study the full chart.
Yes, under the Lunar New Year convention the Fire Goat year runs from February 6, 2027 through January 25, 2028. Dates from January 1 through February 5, 2027 still belong to the Fire Horse year.
Its Heavenly Stem is Ding (丁), which is Yin Fire, so the annual zodiac designation used here is Fire Goat. Other traditional classifications, including the branch's element and Na Yin, answer different questions. They should not be substituted for the year-stem element or for your Day Master.
No. These English names are used for the zodiac animal 羊, associated with the Wei (未) Earthly Branch. This site uses Goat consistently. Changing the English name does not change the lunar-year dates or the Four Pillars calculation.
Under the lunar zodiac convention, a birth from January 1 through January 25, 2028 is still in the Fire Goat year. January 26 starts the Earth Monkey year. A BaZi Year Pillar uses a separate solar-term boundary and needs its own calculation.
The popular lunar zodiac changes on February 6 in 2027. BaZi commonly changes the Year Pillar at Li Chun, the Start of Spring solar term, which falls on February 4 in the Hong Kong calendar. Between those boundaries, the two methods can disagree. Births close to the exact solar-term transition require a time and timezone.
The label identifies a traditional year combination; it does not establish a person's character or predict their future. A full BaZi chart also includes month, day, and hour pillars. This page explains calendar classifications and does not assign a yearly fortune or compatibility score.
Dates use the Chinese lunar calendar convention used in China and Hong Kong (UTC+8). The year starts on the first day of the first lunar month. Calendar conversions use lunar-javascript; the 2027 and 2028 boundaries were checked against the Hong Kong Observatory tables.
A Chinese zodiac sign describes the lunar birth year. BaZi uses four pillars and commonly changes its Year Pillar at Li Chun, the Start of Spring solar term. A zodiac year’s element is its Heavenly Stem element, not your Day Master.
